Review of Dirty Dancing (1987) by Kevin D — 09 Mar 2012
A hugely overrated film. I still don't understand all the fawning about Dirty Dancing. It was OK but it is not great by any stretch. Then again, I am not a teenage girl either. The acting in the film, save for Jerry Orbach, left much to be desired.
Patrick Swayze could not carry Phil Collins's jock strap and I cannot believe he actually sang in this film. For what? I know that this film was a coming of age film combined with a love story combined with social clash, but that was the issue.
It has way too many things going on at once and tried to simplify them. Jennifer Grey was OK but not exactly memorable. Trust me, Mary Stuart Masterson, Bridget Fonda, or even Lea Thompson could have played Baby Houseman better.
Overrated and convoluted crap only teenage girls could love.
