Review of Dirty Dancing (1987) by Becca A — 03 Jun 2018
I first saw "Dirty Dancing" at the tender age of 11, right after it came out on video in my area. I loved it at 11 and I still love it at 41! Following Baby's journey from a naive young girl to a more worldly one through the film is probably still my favorite thing about this movie. I like to think of Baby(Frances) going to college and fulfilling her dreams of joining the Peace Corps and changing the world. She learned a LOT that summer, and I don't just mean about dancing. I think she got to finally really see what it was like to not be well off, privileged, and not have people trust others implicitly. The upper class/lower class struggles in this movie may seem simple to me today, but being young when I saw it is when I think I first realized people were treated differently depending on their economic status.
This movie has aged well in my opinion and is just as enjoyable to me now (although not as embarrassing to watch with parents) as it was 30 years ago!
