Review of Dirty Dancing (1987) by Stephanie P — 03 Feb 2015
Its my favorite movie of all time. I know every line word for word. It's more nestalga than anything else but it is also a movie about growing up realizing your parents aren't perfect understanding that money and higher education doesnt make you a good person and being poor doesnt make you a thief.
Its about doing the right thing even if it means hurting the ones you love its about prejudices even if not related to skin color but economic class. Its about growing up and realizing pretty and talented doesnt make you happy its about family and sibling rivalry.
And yes there's dance. But its the separation in the class of dancing that makes it paramount. Sexy dancing verses the fox trot. But ultimately its about a girl whos tolerant and wants to change the world but first must face the hardest battle becoming her own person beyond Daddy's little girl.
