"Die Hard With a Vengeance" is a far more fitting sequel to the original than the second ever was. What the series clearly needs is not just Willis, but original director John McTiernan. It has a similar tone and style to the original, but with a totally different premise.
Why throw McClane into more shafts when you can give him a completely unique action story. Add in the buddy cop mix of Samuel L. Jackson, and you have one hell of an action flick...with lots of great jokes and top notch action.
Plus we get a great villain. As far as I'm concerned, this is the second film.
