Review of Dick Tracy (1990) by Tanner B — 18 Jun 2015
-IGNORE THIS "OUT OF FIVE" RATING.
3/4.
Eye-filling filmization of the comic book series about detective Tracy going after criminals in N.Y.C. Spectacularly produced, colorful flamboyant photography, eye-popping makeup, amazing art-direction. Superficial, perhaps, but there is so much going on you won't mind: an amazing gallery of deliciously comical performances including Madonna, Dustin Hoffman, and especially Al Pacino, who steals every scene he's in with his towering presence. Plus countless amusing cameo appearances. Cast, makeup, scenery, and detail is what makes this a comic book adaption a winner-and come to life. Tons of fun. Three Oscars for Art Direction, Makeup, and Song, "Sooner or Later (I Always Get My Man)".
