Review of Diamonds Are Forever (1971) by Paul W — 02 Apr 2008
This one wasn't bad. Definitely on par with Dr. No and You Only Live Twice, but not quite a From Russia with Love or Goldfinger.
Connery looks a bit old, but then he IS older. Despite the specter (get it?) of 1970s fashions showing up and the lack of a real Bond super-car (that Mustang Mach III can't count can it?), this one's pretty good. A lot of action and Jill St. John is very "grr.".
It's the last Connery Bond (if you don't count You Only Live Twice - which I DON'T!), so I'm re-calibrating all of my Bond ratings to reflect the end of an era, and the start of the Roger "Anyone for tennis?" Moore era.
