Review of Detour (1992) by Sean M — 11 Nov 2007
Unusual beginning, but it gets good fast. Tom Neal hitchhikes across the country to meet his girlfriend, but along the way the guy giving him a ride dies and he's forced to assume his identity. The story is intriguing enough, but Tom Neal's performance is perfectly cynical and mysterious.
Ann Savage's Vera is bitter and callous. The characters are shady, but the movie works so well. The only part I didn't like was the ending, which felt tacked on merely for poetic justice.
