Review of Detachment (2011) by Frances H — 26 Apr 2013
So bad I couldn't watch it. The language, actions and behaviors in this film would never be tolerated in a public secondary inner city school. I know, because I taught in one for 19 years up until 6 years ago, and I doubt the situation has changed that much in that time.
I was also horrified by how Adrian Brody talked to the nurse in the nursing home, because I've dealt with relatives in nursing homes for almost two decades. The film is so pessimistic that it makes Thomas Hardy's Jude the Obscure seem like fairytales and sunshine.
It's unbelievably pretentious to boot.
