Review of Destroyer (2018) by Stu B — 01 Jan 2019
A relentlessly grim and violent thriller with an unrecognizable Nicole Kidman as an LA detective tracking down a gang of cold-blooded killers from her past, but--in its own gory way--a compelling one. Bullets fly, fists (and assorted other heavy objects) find their marks with wince-inducing regularity, cars crash, blood flows--and Kidman, single-minded in her pursuit, and haunted by her previous life as an undercover fed, is in the middle of it all.
After awhile you begin to wonder if Kidman's wigs and make-up and tough chick apparel are more responsible for her metamorphosis than she is; if her startling transformation (and it is an eye-opener) from Aussie beauty queen to stone-faced ass-kicker is the result of well-honed technique or the efforts of her crack design team.
(Probably both.) Worth seeing, though, if for no other reason than Kidman herself. Not for the faint of heart.
