Review of Defendor (2009) by David B — 13 Jan 2011
Nice little movie which unfortunately was released straght-to-video (DVD?). Woody Harrelson plays a slow-witted guy who dresses as a superhero called Defendor. Armed with marbles, catapults and a jar of wasps, he takes on the city's criminals in his quest to find the evil Captain Industry.
Stebbings' film plays on the absurdity of the superhero genre, and indeed questions the notion of heroism itself. Comparisons have been made with Kick Ass, though that's a little unfair. Ostensibly billed as a comedy, this is actually rather a sad and poignant tale, and all the better for it.
