Review of Deepwater Horizon (2016) by Alistair L — 06 Oct 2016
Went to see this on recommendation and was not disappointed. Even though you know the story (it's in living memory, merely seven years ago), it builds up nailbiting tension perfectly as it all goes south on the floating rig.
They pretty much caught the tone spot on - it covers technical bases. Great to see strong performances from John Malkovich and Kurt Russell. Mark Wahlberg plays the beefy action man hero. It would be hard not to make a film without political statement - BP is painted badly, as bullying to get back on schedule, Transocean badly for operating a run-down rig.
The hero's, Transocean employee's, most survived, but the film justifyable acts as some kind of memorial to the eleven lives were lost.
