Review of Deepwater Horizon (2016) by Biju B — 14 Jan 2017
I really liked Lone Survivor so I was interested in this. This surprised me a lot. I had an idea of how it was going to be but this was so much better. The negative, I will say the beginning is so slow.
Can't be too mad about that cause you need to get to know these people. The actors do such a good job that the slow part is still watchable. You almost forget something terrible is about to happen & feels like you're just watching a Documentary on some people's lives on a oil rig.
The music, nothing stood out for me but that could be I was so caught up in the movie that I didn't pay attention to the music. But yeah the actors are great. Gina Rodriguez was a wonderful surprise.
John Malkovich was a awesome jerk ha ha. The direction was great. I read somewhere that they built an oil rig for the movie, supposedly the largest set piece ever built for a movie. So that blew me away.
It was intense & heartbreaking. I'll admit I cry easily at movies but this packed such an emotional punch that I didn't see coming. I'm really loving how good Peter Berg is at directing movies based on real stories.
Another thing too that I usually don't say about movies, I was blown away by the Sound Editing & Sound Mixing. It really stood out for me on this. I would be happy if this got a Oscar nomination for those categories.
For that reason I am so mad at myself for not catching this in IMAX. It would have been amazing. Definitely a Blu Ray buy for me. So sad & I'm glad this story was told.
