Review of Deepwater Horizon (2016) by Jakeri C — 07 May 2018
Deepwater Horizon tells the true story of the oil rig that exploded off the Gulf of Mexico back in 2010. It becomes obvious from the start who was to blame for the disaster as the money grabbing, safety warning ignoring baddie exec from BP played by John Malkovich sits behind his smugness and ignorance as others plead with him to hear out their safety concerns. From here the film builds tension with a serious of creaks, cracks and hisses until the moment Kurt Russell must have thought he was back on the Backdraft set amidst some serious fire safety concerns. The effects are well done and the film does well evoking a feeling of panic as there is a rush to get as many as possible off the rig before the situation worsens.
Overall it was a fairly average disaster movie.
