Review of Deep Rising (1998) by Movie K — 26 Mar 2012

It is consider very good for a B-grade sci-fi action movie. Got the chance to watch this again after more than a decade. Fast pace action and flow well, no nonsense. Movie starts off with Una Damon fixing the ship of boss Treat Williams.

Another irritating crew is Kevin J. O'Connor. A gang of thugs led by Wes Studi, others being Jason Flemyng, Cliff Curtis, Clifton Powell, Trevor Goddard, Djimon Hounsou, Clint Curtis. They are all onboard, destination unknown to the crew.

In the South China Sea other part a luxury cruise maiden voyage Argonautica set sails. The builder Anthony Heald takes pride in it. Famke Janssen is a wanted thief and she is onboard pretend to be guest.

She stole the his card and is busted, thrown to the food fridge. Kevin snoop around the cargo and discover torpedo. He was nearly kill by the thugs and Treat had to save him. They lock and load their weapons.

A mystery guy disable to cruise system. Then it is been attack by unknown monster. Treat's boat collided with one of the lifeboat drop by the cruise and is down. The thugs have shown their true intention and took over.

They bring duo onboard to get spare parts. Una and Clint stay on to fix. All were surprise when they can't find anyone around. Treat and Kevin went to get parts. Slowly a couple of thugs are kill by monster.

Famke manage to get out of the fridge and was going to enter the captain bunk but stop by thugs. Djimon open the door and Anthony strike an axe down his head. They thought it is monster. Treat and Kevin manage to escape from monster after Cliff is dead.

They bump into Famke in the lift and are all caught by Wes again. Then it is reveal that Anthony work with Wes to rob the ship. The torpedo is to sink the cruise. He want to claim insurance simply because he can't keep up the costs.

Anthony show them the way to escape and monster keep attacking and killing off one by one. At a juncture, he show them the wrong way and alone go the right way. They saw all the dead bodies. The monster is octopus like and so it drinks its prey.

It starts attacking them. Wes shot Kevin to slow it down but he manage to hide. Later Wes is been swallow. Kevin give him a gun and he fire at him. When he want to suicide there's no more bullet. Una and Clint are killed.

Famke get jet ski and Anthony chase after her. Treat lose the parts and have no choice but to program his boat to u-turn and bang the cruise. Kevin manage to return as well. Treat went to save Famke and the monster caught him.

He shot at its eye and escape. When they return, Kevin is gone. Treat program the boat and get jet ski. Anthony jump down to the boat and broke his leg. The only way out is block by monster and the duo ski within the cruise and finally escape.

Anthony and the boat crash to the cruise and with the torpedo blows up everything. Treat and Famke reach the island nearby. Kevin swim ashore and escape when the monster smash the boat. Just when they are relieve, they hear monster roar in the jungle of the island.
