Review of Deep Impact (1998) by Jeremiah K — 23 Mar 2012
A sharp contrast to the wildly implausible, feel-good block-buster Armageddon, this movie concentrates on relationships and the emotions of those involved. Unusually sombre for a Hollywood movie, it is far more believable than most disaster movies and is a real tear-jerker thanks to the sensitive direction of Mimi Leder.
It is impossible to watch without being moved and Tea Leoni is brilliant in the starring role, with great special effects, and strong support from an all-star cast of Robert Duvall, Vanessa Redgrave, and a youthful Elijah Wood.
Hard to watch a second time around due to its poignant and affecting realism, this deserves to rank amongst the all-time best Sci-Fi movies.
