Review of Death Wish (1974) by Hugh J — 16 Jan 2008
Seeing it after 'Death Wish 3', I shouldn't have been surprised that Bronson wasn't badass yet. He had to go through a period of time where he's sickened by killing others or else we wouldn't feel sympathy for him.
With that said, it was a decent flick. They call this a revenge movie but he doesn't actually get revenge which is cool since rarely do you get the chance to pay back those who've wronged you.
Still, it could've used a little bit more action than Bronson getting mugged everywhere he goes, looking sad and bewildered before firing a quick succession of shots into the muggers. The last shot was awesome, though, and a great way to end the movie.
Other than that, I liked the talk about racial equality for muggers. It's funny to see that even in 1974, people were already overusing the race card. I also liked how in the parking lot, Bronson shoots the guy already down before aiming for the guy running.
Makes me laugh.
