Review of Death of a Salesman (1985) by Ryan V — 29 Feb 2012
Arthur Miller's affecting and powerful drama receives a first-rate rendition in this terrific film. Dustin Hoffman brings his passion and pathos to the role of Willy Loman, a washed-up, delusional, and suicidal salesman who is on the brink of suicide.
Stephen Lang, John Malkovich, and Kate Reid bring emotional complexity and riveting talent to their parts as Willy's dysfunctional family. The cinematography and set design buttress the raw acting ability with depth and invention.
(I loved how the world of Willy's fantasies look like a theater stage) However, the key selling point for this movie are the astonishing performances.
