Death Note is not quite bad, but never elevates itself above just that. At very least, it does suggest that the Netflix-as-distributor model is working, as what would have obviously been reduced to a teen-friendly film was given the license instead be more geared toward adults.
Unfortunately, many of the adults who may see the film likely aren't within its target audience.
