An overcrowded and unfortunately quite rushed script translate on screen as a bit of a sloppy remake of a far superior Japanese film and manga series. I don't understand why Death Note needed a remake really, but that's America for you I guess.
Definitely watch the original 2006 film instead and don't bother with this one. The director has some solid ideas and a sharp eye for detail, but the script just sweats with an overabundance of confusing mythology and far too little to actually maintain the attention of the audience.
One highlight is in the performance of leading man Nat Wolff as Light Turner, but he's no Fujiwara. If you haven't seen the original then you'll probably really enjoy this.
