Fans of Wingard's "You're Next" and "The Guest" will undoubtedly recognize his often hypnotic style of rich visuals and sound. However, the narrative, of "Death Note" (an adaptation) doesn't seem to have received as much of Wingard's style as it should have.
Wingard is a director that can deal with the already-been-there storyline and do it in spectacular fashion, and "death note" is certainly in that category. The results here, however, are not as spectacular.
