Review of Death in Venice (1971) by Lian F — 07 Jun 2007
Visconti brings together all the elements that make a film adaptation of a literary work work. Gustav Mahler's 5th symphony is as essential to the film as Bogarde's unforgettably disturbing rendition of Thomas Mann's Aschenbach; so much so, that at times the music alone is used to express Bogarde?s emotions.
It is a beautiful piece, inspired by a beautiful short story.
