Review of Death in Venice (1971) by Amos B — 23 Jun 2007
Magnificient! A tired German composer goes to Venice for vacation and discovers that beauty (or "the sublime") appears randomly whereas he had spent most of his life trying to create it. This is a movie about LOve for real. This is about going down to hell to catch just a glimpse of your beloved. The music is gorgeous and Visconti managed to create a genuine symbiosis between sight and sound. Devastating!
A real Dyonisian tragedy!
