Review of Death in Venice (1971) by Padraig W — 18 Oct 2007
The final sequence encapsulates all that cinema is for. The music. The long take. The ambiguity. The emotion is overwhelming. It is easy to forget that this is the ultimate in forbidden love - homosexual desire for an adolescent.
In a sense, that enhances the tragic element. Haunting.
