Review of Dear White People (2014) by Omari V — 29 Sep 2015
The title is the hook, but the movie is deeper than it suggests. Lots of confused characters of color stuck between worlds. The only one who is actually honest with himself, Lionel (Tyler James Williams), gets no respect from anyone, though I think the gay angle is just a throw-in and gives the movie a little more "Higher Education" than it needs.
It is a commentary on faults in us all, and seems to say that complacency and ambition can be combustible and the result can enable those who would use race to divide and ridicule. Worth a second watch.
