Review of Dear White People (2014) by Brendan N — 25 Jun 2017
I had seen the trailer before realising that the tv show on Netflix was based on a critically acclaimed film. The film is well crafted and actors breath life into each and every character, no character unnecessary.
The film has a distinct tone and while stay with certain characters throughout, the shift from jokey happens swiftly and never returns, robbing the film of that key ingredient. The film is great but I couldn't hold the film to the heights of the critics, I agree the film has a filmmakers choice and voice but it hasn't hit that timeless factor.
I may change my opinion of the film with time but at this stage it will be an interesting film that couldn't sustain the vision throughout, strong ending though. 26-06-2017.
