Review of Dear White People (2014) by Reiki S — 09 Feb 2018
The jokes were insightful regarding realistic sentiments that are felt from media stereotypes by darker shade people. However, I was appalled at how it dismissed all of the racial points made in the movie by ending as if racism is non-existent today; the movie plot ended in a way that would make it seem like the events in this movie were an anomaly or an exception to what's really going on in the greater sphere of society.
It was as if to say no reason is really going on and that people that speak out against it or being push to buy angry group or individuals that identify as radicals. Didn't like the fact that they acted as if people who try to act black hide the fact that they really like television shows that aren't black oriented or artists like Taylor Swift.
Nobody on a large scale is doing that. The people that are protesting or speaking out against the racial indifference that exist today are not trying to overly act black, African American, or more down with they're darker shade brothers and sisters.
that is just not the case, they're not twiddling thumbs looking for something extra to do & so decided they will pretend more black than they already are in a whirlwind of identity crisis. I mean really the movie called dear white people ended with, "dear white people, never mind".
Never Mind? ... so this was a movie to expain that anyone who thinks racism still exists it's just a disgruntled person and by the way white people should carry on dismisive of this? What a bad message because race is still a huge problem around the world.
This move had good actors, topics addresed & solid Film evirment elements, But the goal of the plot counteracts what you would expect in a very unfortunate way. It almost like a intelectual person made this film to discredit the very facts they are aware of.
So it doesnt matter if the filmed raised an awareness for Hot Topic issues if it dismissed every issue raised by creating a plot that insinuates every issue was just a freak anomaly.
