Review of Dead Space: Aftermath (2011) by Ellen G — 23 Mar 2011
Definitely a step down from the first Deadspace animated feature, this movie has some cool ideas, but is mostly just annoying. Each of four characters tell the story of how they came to be the last survivors of a doomed ship.
And with each narration, we see a different style of animation. This could have been used well, had the animation variations tied into the characters at all, but they really didn't. Most of the characters and their respective story lines were listless and dull.
Especially bad was guy who kept seeing his daughter. Personally, after the first time he lost it and got a bunch of people killed, I'd have put a bullet in his head. After about the fourth time, it was just silly.
It's too bad. This could have made for an interesting little animated horror franchise. But after this film, I don't particularly care to see another. Also, there comes a point where dropping the F-bomb stops being effective.
In this film, that point was reached in about five minutes.
