Review of Dead Space: Aftermath (2011) by Jamie J — 23 Apr 2011
Electronic Arts really are pushing the whole extended universe thing with Dead Space aren't they? Following on from the reasonable, but hardly special "Downfall" "Aftermath" sets up the events between the first and second Dead Space games.
Aftermath suffers from most of the same problems that the first movie did, notably an obscenely low budget, and some massive plot holes that make precious little sense. The feeling is compounded here in a scene where one characters daughter actually CHANGES SKIN COLOUR in different scenes, due to each flashback having a different art style. Clever that.
However all is not lost, I actually found the story in Aftermath to be much stronger than Downfall, and the film focuses much less on over the top action, which quite frankly was a blessing. However you simply cannot escape the fact that the film seems lacking overall, and the 3D animation is simply atrocious-akin to a mid nineties episode of Jonny Quest.
