It's quite interesting that Martin did this homage to film noir and was then chosen ahead of Bob Hoskins for the lead in "Pennies From Heaven". Quite interesting movie, as things go. I would you recommend that you watch it tandem with the original TV series: an interesting study in the difference between UK and US mentailty during this era.
