Review of Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982) by Andrew C — 14 Sep 2012
A parody of the classic 1940's film noir Philip Marlowe and Sam Spade detective films. The film is a collage of black and white movie clips from 18 different classic films The film is a tribute to those films.
While clever and delightfully humorous the plot gets convoluted. Steve Martin plays the low rent detective Rigby Reardon and Rachel Ward plays the voluptuous femme fatal Juliet Forrest. Homage is paid to The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, To Have or Have Not, and others.
Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid is a cleverly good film and one of Steve Martin's better ones.
