Review of Dead Man Walking (1995) by David S — 16 Jul 2009
This is a very slow, but very moving piece of art based on an experience and a book written by Sister Helen Prejean. Tim Robbins does a great job in bringing this to life.
Story: Being based on a book, it's written out for the director but he still has to adapt and know how best to bring it to the big screen. Despite it's slow pace, the emotion captured is worth each minute and at very few points does it seem to drag on too long.
Acting: Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn are two of the best in their line of work and neither disappoint. Sarandon as the caring nun who believes she can sympathise and care for the world, and Penn, as the convicted killer on death row, who learns humility, repentence and most importantly, the love of Jesus.
The one negative was the lack of shots that set the scene in each section. This is only a minor and should not affect your overall view of the movie.
