Review of Dead Man Walking (1995) by Guy G — 12 Nov 2011
[C+/65] Very solid performances by Penn and Sarandon make this a watchable and sometimes thought-provoking drama. Their presentation of courageous emotional clarity seems to (mostly) successfully defy an otherwise ambiguous and partly nullified rational center.
In particular, the social/political aims dealing with evoking reaction to capital punishment feel strangely flat here, and ill-served by half-hearted, half-articulated portrayals of religious motivation and conviction.
