Review of Dead Like Me: Life After Death (2009) by Elin G — 15 Sep 2009
I loved this show. I adored it, it was great. And it's nice that they got a movie, but frankly it was a TV-format story. The lack of Rube is devestating, (and the characters reaction to his passing is way wrong!) the recasting of Daisy dreadful since her replacement doesn't get the character at all, and time has sure taken it's toll with the others as well.
Mason, Roxy and Dolores get by, even though I felt they were occasionaly off, almost being parodies of themselves, but what the hell, they worked. The best part? George. She was dead on, and barely looked older.
She saved this project, Also Joy and Reggie got it right, even though the grieving book seemed a ittle forced to me. Reggie had turned into quite the beauty, and she and George actually had chemstry, despite never having much screen time togther before.
The main problem however were plot and pace. I'm not sure if I liked the comic book-retelling of backstory and plotpoints, the secret lovesory was silly and the rulebreaking-theme, which was interesting as an idea escaleted out ofhand.
But I guess that's what you get when you try to blow a one hour show into a full lenght move I also really missed Die Wafflehouse, it was such an essntial part of the show. But regardless of it's flaws, I'm still glad I watched this, and I bid a found farewell to these characters that I absolutely love.
The murdering of the new boss was, despite being illogical, hillarious in the messed up way that Dead like me always did hillarious and for that I say the walked out in some kind of style.
