Review of Days of Wine and Roses (1963) by Greg K — 17 Aug 2009
Lemmon nails his role in this, specifically through the height of Clay's alcoholism. The scene shot in the greenhouse at the climax deserves hall of fame status for its era. From there, however, the film goes downhill.
As Lemmon's and Remick's characters differentiate in ideals, the connection which made the earlier portion of the film enjoyable is shattered. The conclusion doesn't come close to living up to the preceding segments' overall quality.
