Review of Daylight Robbery (1964) by Adrian S — 04 Jan 2009
No problems with the acting, production values were fine, the plot was entertaining enough ... but ... it just didn't quite come together as it should and in the end I really wasn't too bothered about any of the characters.
From the extras on the DVD we understand that all the characters have a backstory and that there are differences in the relationships and loyalties within the group but we don't really get to know that from the film itself. Well, apart from occasional, and distracting, short scenes with Chubby's (Paul Nicholls) wife.
A pity really - a good idea and some fine talent probably let down by lack of budget and time to smooth out the rough edges and give more room to the individual character stories.
One final thought ... I really hope that Paul Nicholls was in a fat suit for this role and the huge gut he had for this film wasn't all him!
