Review of Day of the Woman (1978) by Fazley A — 22 Jan 2011
One of the best revenge movies on the market today.
Jenny Hill is wanting seclusion to finish writing her next novel. She goes to the country side and relaxes best she can while working on the novel. A group of three gentlemen catch glimpse of Jenny and decide to make it a weekend none of them will forget. Jenny is repeatedly raped, beaten, and left for dead by the men.
Bloodied and Beaten, Jenny crawls her way back to the cabin where one of the men is sent in to stab her, or "finish her" after being raped again.
An uncomfortable experience for not only characters but the audience as well. There is little to no music throughout the film, which makes it a dirty and raw film. The one scene where music is present is one of the most well directed scene in a film in ages.
I Spit on Your Grave is proof of "power" of a woman vs. man. Jenny sexually exploits herself to provide the best revenge a woman has ever gotten on her attackers. The revenge scenes are well thought out and leave you cheering for more on Jenny's behalf. I can honestly say in her situation, I would do the same. Any man with the intentions of what these men did, deserve nothing less.
After Jenny cleanses herself she plans her revenge against these men. First revenge, lure one of men by the lakeside and consent to the actions they forced themselves onto you. While in middle putting a noose around the neck of the desensitized and a quick tug. The man is hung from a tree in complete exposure. A humiliating way to go.
Next man. Lure back into your cabin and invite for a nice bath with you. Sitting on the bottom of the tub, a knife. After settling herself in and a quick kiss, shes grabs the knife and proceeds to remove the mans genitals and allows to bleed to death in the tub. After doing so, she sits in an old rocking chair and plays a record, while the man is screaming as she rocks and enjoys her record. Humility on man #2. Any man would probably agree, the worst way to go. I would agree too, but the male brain is sometimes deserving.
Last man. "Let your crazy bitch side out, because it's about to get intense!" While the man is taking a dip in the lake, Jenny takes her boat out and circles the man, screaming and hollering. (as what they did to her to get her attention at the cabin). Jenny stops the boat, and grabs the man and pursues the words they screamed at her, "Suck it, Bitch." And proceeds to blow the mans head off with her boat.
Jenny Hills is a strong character. One I very much look up to. Jenny takes Justice into her hands, (which in real life would have a lot of consequences but its good for the movie world.) I've known plenty of people, not just male, that I can honestly say are in need of watching the film and taking it seriously. (It might be rough dealing with some terrible acting, but the direction of the film is perfect.).
I had a long talk with my buddy about this film. Which to some extent I think he agrees, but disagrees also. Joel, I believe thought this movie was terrible. Which in all honesty, it kind of is, but the revenge is beyond some of the best. But, we all know someone out there that is what in average terms is a slut, whore, sex addict, what have you. Think of these people and what they would probably think is the worst thing that could happen to them. It is present in this film.
The biggest message of the film, to me, would be take your actions seriously. You may never know the consequences. Karma is a son of gun.
