Review of David Brent: Life on the Road (2016) by Kelly W — 23 Aug 2016
The turn-around at the end whereby all the band members who vehemently disliked Brent felt forced, fake and rushed. There was no leading up to this moment happening and it certainly didn't feel natural.
I wanted to like this film so much, but the mockumentary style of the film felt inconsistent, and not believably as it was hardly ever interviewing Brent himself. Also, the money side of things, just felt lazily accounted for by Brent cashing in some of his pensions.
This film attempts to be realistic, but isn't whatsoever. I didn't believe in the romance between the office girl (with the coffee date) at the end either. So it was just a series of let downs, one after each other.
And as someone who love Gervais (as a recent convert though), it felt like this movie was just him, rather than Brent's character. Which is a real shame, and disrespectful to the character that put Gervais on the map.
