Review of Das Boot (1981) by Christian Z — 15 May 2010
75% of U-boat men died! the highest loss ratio of any combatants in the biggest war yet fought. This is one of the best, if not(honourable Mention to "Hunt for Red October" and be sure and MISS the awful "Crimson Tide" which is unlikely and unrealistic and sucked) the best Submarine movie yet made, the writer served on U-96 during the war as a war correspondent so it is semi-autobiographical.
Very accurate and intense, showing how the war changed from the U-boats winning in the early years to being barely able to attack and then having to run for their lives from midwar to the end. Jurgen Prochnow is the only face anyone will probably recognize and he is excellant, Wolgang Petersen is a superb director.
.see his other film "Stalingrad" if you wanna know how bad the eastern front was...
