Review of Darkness (2009) by Max D — 21 Jun 2007
I was fully prepared to discard this film without even watching it. But I DID watch it, and I was rather pleasantly surprised by the result. A thoroughly unsettling story with some pretty impressive camera work and editing (while relying very little on annoying "sloooowly opening the door" scenes that ruin so many potentially good stories).
For a horror movie, this one ended on a pitch-perfect note of true terror, instead of opting for a cheesy all's well that ends well. A scary story is supposed to be scary, and this one delivers. Based on other's comments, I believe I have seen the abridged PG-13 edition, so I am looking forward to see what else the unrated version has to offer.
