Review of Darkest Hour (2017) by Ruth W — 14 Feb 2018
Rather underwhelmed by this film even though there is a stellar performance from Oldman ably supported by Scott-Thomas, Lilly James and Stephen Dillane. Perhaps it's because the plot is so well known as are the morale boosting speeches. The staging is authentic and the lighting very interesting with shafts of light piercing the general gloom. But I didn't feel I learnt anything new apart from Churchill taking the tube and.
Taking to the passengers. Equally this may well be dramatic licence. I would not dissuade anyone from seeing this film but nor would I encourage them.
