Review of Dark Star (1974) by Ryan D — 11 Aug 2009
The guerilla style and basic 'DIY' special effects only adds to the charm of this very raw black sci/fi comedy which has clearly influenced everything from Star Wars to Red Dwarf. It's obviously underdeveloped and amateurish but considering it was made while Carpenter was a student, it's darned impressive stuff, making the most out of very little, the story is so understated it feels perfectly placed and it's very funny!
