Review of Dark Horse (2012) by Ana B — 28 Jan 2013
Imagine making a movie about the most obnoxious man ever, well that will be "Dark Horse". Abe is not only very overweight and physically unattractive, he is also selfish, shallow, lazy and not very bright. He is employed in his father's company but doesn't do any work. His life seems pointless and terribly boring until he meets heavily medicated Miranda, a determined girl with several health issues (depression being one of them) that accepts his bizarre marriage proposal; but will Abe take this opportunity to change things around and stop wasting his life?
It is an interesting film with a nonsensical approach to the anti-hero, an individual that accumulates terrible choices and every decision seems to be the wrong one. Abe keeps having a sort of weird dreams or hallucinations about people around him, but we do not know how much of it is real until the end. Catastrophe looms over him an a comic way. this is indeed a very funny drama that cannot be taken seriously though I believe there can be people like this.
The movie benefits of a good direction and really believable acting. It is and original conception with well built "out of the box" characters that make it worth watching and can even make you reflect upon our own choices.
