Review of Dancer in the Dark (2000) by Sarah A — 15 Aug 2011
One of the most powerful films I've ever seen. When the credits rolled, I stayed in the state of shock. It was so moving that I had to keep reminding myself, through a full box of Kleenex, that this is just a movie.
Björk charms with her portrayal. For a non-actress, her performance was surprising in its quality. I loved the part where **SPOILER** after she get hanged, a curtain closes as if it was a symbol that she was performing in a musical (her life) and the world was her stage.
I also loved the spectacular musical sequences as the dream we can all escape to. Although, the Lo-Fi look by the Director is something that took a while to get used to. This film has proves that films is not just mere entertainment but can be a life changing experience too.
