Review of Dahmer (2002) by Miles H — 23 Dec 2007
I randomly found this movie playing on TV at the gym while running on the treadmill and lo and behold, it was so captivating that I ran/walked for over an hour to see it to the end! I was pretty sore, but not nearly as sore as Dahmer's victims must've been.
Yeesh. That being said, this is a much better movie than the cover/press would have you believe. Jeremy Renner, whom I've never thought highly of, turns in a very terrifying yet humanizing performance as a monster of a man, and Jacobson allows the story to unfold with patience and a real eye for tension and dread, keeping the suspense high (there's a particular scene involving a box that's almost unbearable in what it suggests).
This isn't a horror movie. It's a disturbing drama about a horrific subject and it's definitely worth a viewing if you have the stomach for it.
