Review of Dad's Army (2016) by Pat S — 15 Feb 2016
The accurate homes, clothes and behaviour made me quite claustrophobic; as a child in the fifties, not allowed to speak, and at the whim of incomprehensible adult forces, this era is a place of confusion.
Still that fitted with the film. All the big-name actors brought out their best stereotypical performances, tailored to look like the tv cast - quite clever; Toby Jones is really dignified somehow. The Miss Marple ladies were great, and A.
Steadman just has to be on screen to steal it. The middle third of the film had me nearly going home - my attention wandered - I started making lists of Things to Do... but the last half hour was fun, with plenty going on, lots of satisfying and funny things happening, and some stirring stuff generally.
Bridlington is lovely and surely everyone watching will want to visit now.
