Review of Dad's Army (2016) by Stuart M — 21 Nov 2017
So the entire joke of the Dad's Army TV show was that these were horribly ineffectual people who were placed in positions of authority they were unqualified to fill. So when you think about it, making them essential for the success of the war effort is rather defeating the purpose of the joke.
It doesn't help that the German plan makes no sense (how can they invade England when they're on the defensive in France? Why isn't this film set earlier in the war?) or that Catherine Zata-Jones is utterly boring as the femme fatale Nazi spy.
And it certainly doesn't help that the talented cast is wasted on a bunch of slapstick jokes and hamming it up for the camera.
