Review of Dad's Army (2016) by Jake S — 01 Feb 2017
I had huge hopes for this 21st Century cinematic remake of Dad's Army but after watching was left disappointed. Fundamentally the we've seen it all before narrative takes itself far too seriously, doesn't flow and is disproportionate, particularly the 2nd act which was far too long and uninteresting whilst the final fast paced act is far too short and rushed.
It feels lacklustre, contrived by writers in one afternoon as an excuse to have a Dad's Army film rather than be a true meaningful reflection on the original sitcom. Practically every joke is featured and spoilt in trailers therefore it's hard to laugh at the same few painfully excruciating cliched jokes for the umpteenth time.
You find yourself asking, what I suppose to laugh just then? All in all with a poor narrative and lack of jokes you can see it was a difficult task for actors, they seem to fall back into their own personalities rather than actually act the characters.
