Spike Lee’s latest film has a great message about PTSD and coming to terms with our past. Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, and Chadwick Boseman deserve major Oscar attention next year and every else does a pretty good job.

The screenplay and story are all great. I appreciated the themes that Spike Lee presented and some of those themes made some scenes quite emotional. The twist towards the end of the film feels earned and makes sense and I liked how Spike Lee changed the aspect ratio for the flashbacks.

I also enjoyed how they had the older versions of the characters in the flashbacks. The only issues I had with the film were pacing and special effects. The pacing feels off here and there and there are points where I feel that the film does drag.

Some of the visual gunshots and blood looked pretty bad and were quite distracting at points. I also took issue with how some of the action was shot. It’s hard to tell what is going on because Spike Lee isn’t the greatest action director but that isn’t the point of the story so it wasn’t too distracting for me.

I urge you to check this out when you get the chance.
