Review of D-Tox (2002) by Stuart K — 24 Apr 2009
For a film whose release was delayed for nearly 3 years and it was disowned by it's studio, you'd think it would be crap. Not in fact so!! This is a very creepy and paranoid thriller with a good cast and some good twists along the way to it's name, it's hardly original, but it's better than alot of films that get released most of the time.
It has FBI officer Jake Malloy (Sylvester Stallone) tracking down a serial killer who specialises in killing cops. After his killer murders Malloy's fiance Mary (Dina Meyer), Malloy becomes undone, and is sent by his partner Detective Hendricks (Charles S.
Dutton) to a rehab clinic in the snowy hills of Wyoming ran by Doc (Kris Kristofferson), a former cop. He finds himself with other troubled cops such as Jaworski (Jeffrey Wright), Noah (Robert Patrick), Slater (Christopher Fulford) and Hank (Tom Berenger), but no sooner than Malloy has arrived, the murders start all over again.
It's quite a gripping thriller, and it owes alot to films such as Se7en, The Thing and The Shining. But director Jim Gillespie keeps the mood grim and suspenseful, it feels like something from the 1980's, and all the better for it.
Even Sly is good. Oh, and the title for this in America was, get this, Eye See You (Groans), whose idea was that!?
