Review of Cutthroat Island (1995) by Tiia L — 18 Apr 2010
(from The Watermark, 01/04/96).
A big-budget version of every pirate movie you've probably already seen. The gimmick here is that Davis is the Errol Flynn character and Modine is the femme fatale. The stunts and effects are great, but the action never stops to create characters of any depth. Queer Quotient: Modine's hair is always perfect, in spite of storms at sea, high-speed wagon chases, and weeks in prison. I'd be jealous if he could act.
